Native forestry in NSW: an overview
The native forests of NSW are one of our most valuable assets, benefitting the community, wildlife, and the economy. Here are the ways we work with all of NSW to protect them.
The EPA conducts a comprehensive compliance program to ensure the native forestry industry is obeying the law.
We also work in partnership with landholders, the Department of Primary Industries, the Forestry Corporation of NSW, Local Land Services, the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, the Australian Government, community groups and the timber industry on:
- regulatory reforms to strengthen environment protection and support Forestry Corporation of NSW and private logging companies to obey the law
- guidelines to help the timber industry operating on both private and public land conduct ecologically sustainable native forestry
- innovative mapping programs and research to increase knowledge of where threatened species such as koalas and threatened ecological communities occur.
