The Householders’ Asbestos Disposal Scheme is a trial program designed to explore the impact of cheaper and easier asbestos disposal for householders on rates of illegal dumping of asbestos waste.

This trial involved waiving the waste levy on asbestos and reducing tip fees in 23 selected council areas. It also includes a NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) contribution of $50 per tonne as an incentive towards the safe disposal of asbestos waste.

The trial has now finished. The evaluation results will be used to inform future EPA policy on asbestos disposal.
