Scrap Together FOGO education

The EPA is helping NSW residents get their Scrap Together by putting only the right things in their FOGO bin. That is, food (including meat, bones, fish and dairy), garden organics and certified compostable plastic caddy liners only.

By keeping all other items and contaminants out of the FOGO bin, we can ensure that compost generated from food and garden waste is of the highest quality, is safe, sustainable and can be used on our sporting fields, parks, gardens and farms.

Scrap Together FOGO education program

The EPA’s Scrap Together Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) education program is available to NSW councils to help them educate their communities on how to use their FOGO service well.

The Scrap Together program has three phases. Each phase includes videos, radio adverts, social media tiles, posters, brochures and other collateral for councils to use. The three phases are:

  • Starting Scraps: for councils introducing the new service
  • Every Scrap Counts: for councils with an existing service
  • How to FOGO: for councils with existing services reminding residents to keep contaminants like plastic and cardboard out of the FOGO bin.

Visit scraptogether.com.au to access and download the Scrap Together collateral.

Phase 1: Starting Scraps

Starting Scraps is a complete education package available for councils introducing a new FOGO service.

It engages and educates communities over six stages, ensuring they understand the change that is coming and know how to use their new FOGO service well.

Designed to be delivered 4-6 months out from a service start, Starting Scraps comprises of a complete package of materials spanning multiple platforms, including caddy stamps, bin stickers, banners, social media tiles, and radio and video adverts.

The six stages are:

  • Stage 1: What’s FOGO?
  • Stage 2: Next Season's Soil
  • Stage 3: Your Greener Green Bin
  • Stage 4: Fortnightly Red Lid Bin Service
  • Stage 5: Your Kitchen Caddy
  • Stage 6: FOGO is Here

Phase 2: Every Scrap Counts

Every Scraps Counts is for councils with existing FOGO services. The target behaviour is maximising the amount of food waste going into the green lid FOGO bin instead of the red lid bin.

Phase 3: How to FOGO

How to FOGO explains what can and cannot go into the green lid FOGO bin. The focus is on keeping plastics and cardboard out.

A series of adaptable social media tiles explain where things like pizza boxes do go, instead of into the FOGO bin.
