Noise camera trial

We have committed to trialling noise cameras in the Bayside and Wollongong local government areas in response to community concerns about anti-social behaviour and noisy vehicles.

We released a competitive tender seeking suitable noise camera detection technology on 6 December 2023 to deliver on the Government’s election commitment to trial noisy vehicle detection cameras in the Bayside and Wollongong Council areas.

The trial will start in 2024 and may extend until late 2025.

Camera locations

The cameras will be installed in the Bayside and Wollongong council areas, at locations agreed with each council. The location of noise cameras may move from time-to-time.

Thank you to the community for providing input on the suggested locations for trialling the noise cameras. The suggestion form was closed on Monday 24 June to allow relevant agencies to consider this feedback before the cameras are installed.

You can still report noisy vehicle pollution through the EPA’s online Report to EPA service.

Who decides on noise camera locations?

An interagency working group led by the EPA and including NSW Police, Transport for NSW and councils. Data will be collected from the noise camera technology along with information from concerned community members and councils.
