Stakeholder profile: Keep NSW Beautiful
Keep NSW Beautiful is the champion for litter reduction and environmental sustainability in the state. Independent and not-for-profit, Keep NSW Beautiful’s focus is to engage communities to make NSW the least littered state in Australia and transform our littering behaviour to create a beautiful and more sustainable environment.
The organisation recently held its annual Litter Congress around the theme “Less Litter, Live Better” with ABC’s War on Waste presenter Craig Reucassel as the MC, facilitating panel discussions and case studies.
Interim Chief Executive Val Southam said over 130 delegates were educated, inspired and challenged at the Congress by more than 30 presenters and an international keynote speaker.
“Delegates heard some fantastic case studies and learnt what environmental programs have worked well and what hasn’t, from a range of different councils and communities,” Ms Southam said.
“The Congress is now in its 4th year giving delegates from governments, industry, the not-for-profit sector and community groups the chance to come together to tackle important issues.
“The EPA is a vital enabler of the Congress, and four years ago had the confidence to support our entirely new concept at the time.
“Each year the EPA continues to contribute both financially and in program development”.
Through its five core programs Keep NSW Beautiful works with communities across regional, metropolitan and coastal NSW to educate and motivate environmental initiatives. It is part of the Keep Australia Beautiful Network (KAB) that covers all Australian States and Territories and leads efforts toward a litter free and sustainable Australia.
Community Groups are reminded that they can apply for grants from the EPA to clean up their local area, through a partnership with Keep NSW Beautiful.
