EPA Regional Director North Adam Gilligan said the Summerhill Waste Management Centre has a dedicated area for the safe disposal of lead contaminated soil from residences near the former Pasminco lead smelter in Boolaroo.
“Up until now, residents of North Lake Macquarie have had to transport their lead contaminated soils to waste facilities in Sydney,” Mr Gilligan said.
“This service at Summerhill offers a much more convenient and cost-effective solution.”
Residents can register to deliver their affected soil by contacting the EPA’s Waste Compliance Team on 4908 6800. For more information and to find out if you are eligible visit our website.
Across NSW landowners and residents need to be mindful of the health risks posed by lead waste. Further information about removing lead waste can be found on our website.
The lead disposal solution at Summerhill is a result of work done by the EPA’s Lead Expert Working Group and the Lake Macquarie Lead Community Reference Group.
