Notified sites
The EPA publishes a list of contaminated land notified under section 60 of the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 (CLM Act). These have been assessed by the EPA as being contaminated, but may not always require regulation under the CLM Act.
See list of notified sites for more information.
Record of notices
The EPA publishes information on its record of notices when a site has been declared 'significantly contaminated' under the CLM Act, when the declaration ends, and a notice is revoked.
Other matters relating to the site are also published, including
- preliminary investigation orders
- approved voluntary management proposals
- management orders
- ongoing maintenance orders
- site audit statements
See record of notices for more information.
Other communication
When land is declared, the EPA also publishes a copy of the notice in the Government Gazette, and serves a copy on the
- owner of the land
- those persons who the EPA has reason to believe are responsible for the contamination
- occupier of the land
- local authority
The EPA may take additional actions depending on the circumstances of the contamination, for example
-
issue a media release
-
advise local communities or government organisations by mail
-
door knocking
-
advertise in newspapers
