The refined advice and a revised map of the impacted area, were based on data from the Commonwealth Department of Defence’s draft Human Health Risk Assessment. The release of this assessment marks the end of Defence’s investigation into the spread of contamination from the RAAF Base Williamtown.
The NSW EPA has been visiting and speaking to impacted residents to provide them with tailored, precautionary advice to reduce their exposure to the contamination from the Base, predominantly through ground and surface water sources.
“The advice we are giving to the community is long term and comprehensive. We want to help residents understand how this fits in with their lifestyle and how they use their property,” EPA Regional Director North Adam Gilligan said.
“The EPA has been and will continue to be available to listen to residents and provide advice that strikes a balance between taking the right precautions to protect their health and practical living on their property.”
The investigation update provides a new Williamtown Management Area map, and the precautionary advice for residents.
