Lead and asbestos safety awareness on show
EPA staff were on hand at the recent Sydney Home Show in April to raise awareness of the potential dangers of lead and asbestos during household renovations.

EPA staff provided strategies on how to keep families safe from the potential dangers of lead and asbestos during household renovations.
Given the risk of lead exposure in former industrial areas from historic smelters, lead paint or legacy automotive fuels in former industrial areas, the EPA is organising a lead awareness campaign to focus on Wollongong, Newcastle and the Inner West suburbs of Sydney.
The campaign will promote lead awareness and safety in home renovation and gardening activities, and will incorporate a social media campaign, alongside partnership events with local councils, home renovation stores, and other industry bodies.
With many homes built before the late 1980s containing asbestos, DIY renovators were also provided information on where asbestos could be located in their homes and the safest way to have it removed and disposed of.
