The State Government of NSW has set a goal to have net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal all major sources of greenhouse gases need to be either reduced or offset. Currently there are many sources of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) that can be better characterised and mitigation strategies developed.
The industrial and agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in the western Sydney suburbs of Eastern Creek, Horsley Park, Minchinbury, and Arndell Park are of interest to the NSW Environment Protection Authority as there are many CH4 sources in these suburbs that need to be better quantified to plan mitigation strategies.
