Welcome to the latest edition of EPA Connect. A new Board Chair, a new communication style and new directions for the EPA including a commitment to become carbon neutral - it has been an active couple of months since our last edition.

Taking action on environmental crime
The EPA is holding polluters to account to protect the environment and human health. Our robust regulatory action recently realised the highest fine for pesticide misuse, a successful prosecution of Sydney Water for sewage pollution into the Lane Cover River and a guilty conviction for a company where an ammonia leak sent their staff to hospital.

Coffee's up! And so is business recycling
The EPA has supported close to 30,000 businesses to help cut waste from landfill through our Bin Trim and Circulate programs, including clever ways to tackle disposable coffee cups in Covid times.

The EPA is rolling out a social media campaign across Sydney to appeal to the community to help stop kerbside illegal dumping from households.

Air all clear for Blue Mountains and Lithgow
A year-long study has found the Blue Mountains and Lithgow region enjoys air quality that is generally very good, with air pollutants below Australian air quality standards.

Site blitz shores up clean waterways
Water quality is a key concern for the environment and the community. With higher than average rainfall predicted for Sydney and surrounding regions over the next months, the EPA is urging builders and home renovators to get their building sites right to avoid needless runoff polluting local waterways.
