Message from the CEO
Welcome to the December edition of EPA Connect news. For many, the summer break is when we have the opportunity to enjoy our great Aussie outdoors. With blue skies, warm weather and nature in full bloom all around us.
This is a simple reminder of why the work we do is so important and how it can impact others not just on a public level but also on a personal one. We each have our own stories to tell about why the natural environment means so much to us.
For me, there’s a little swimming spot in Royal National Park with a rope that swings out over the water. I love visiting this place with my family during the warmer months. And yes, I love using the swing as much as my kids do but I also love the abundance and variety of wildlife in this beautiful spot.
Cabbage Tree Bay in Manly is another place that’s special to me. It was declared a “No Take Aquatic Reserve” over 20 years ago, meaning no fishing, harming or collecting of any aquatic animals or plants (even empty shells as they can provide homes for living creatures). It now is a great spot for diving and snorkelling with so many marine species to get up close and personal to. I think the water dragons are my favourite.
With appreciation of nature in mind I wish everyone a great and well-earned summer break. And I encourage all of you to think about your own personal favourite natural spots and why they mean so much to you.
